Can you feel the Heat?

Gilbert and I went to see the Miami Heat receive their rings on Halloween. This was a very special event as it was the first title for this 18 year old franchise. All the players were excited to receive their 8 carat diamond rings. Clearly their heads were not in the game but focused on the rings they had just received. We are privileged to have witnessed this historical moment. They Heat put on a magnificent display for the ring ceremony. As soon as I figure out how to upload a video, I will show parts of the ceremony. We had a great time even though our team played like garbage.

Happy Halloween!

Gilbert and I went out for Halloween on Saturday night and decided to go in costume. Gilbert did a great job putting his costume together. He even entered the costume contest at the club, he didn't win but is a winner to me. Our friend Jean Max went as Flavor Flav and he made it to the finals but didn't win either. We had a great time.

Surprise!

Gilbert and I went to my favorite store, Target, and picked out this nice area rug for the Living Room. Random already loves it!

Gilbert surprised me this weekend with the candlesticks I wanted for my table. Aren't they nice? Posted by Picasa

Only in Miami

Only in Miami will you live in a city for a little over 2 years and have 5 car accidents. Before I moved to Miami, since I became a driver, I had never had an accident. I moved here in May 2004 and in June, I was rear ended then in December 2004 I was in a bad car accident just one month after I bought a new car. That makes two wrecks so far (please note that none of these accidents are my fault). My car was hit in my apartment complex a couple of months ago, then while my Mom was visiting we got tapped in the back of the car. We are up to four wrecks/accidents now (wrecks sounds so bad and only one of our "wrecks" was bad).

This morning I walked out to leave for work, only to find what you might ask. That's right, some idiot hit our car last night and the kicker is, they stayed parked next to it. Now if you hit a parked car there are two options: 1. be responsible and leave a note with your number or 2. move your car, park somewhere else, and wipe away the evidence. So you can imagine how happy I was to see my car had been hit yet again. To make a long story short, we had to call the police so that we had a claim number for our insurance. The cop was going to file a hit and run but after he sent another cop to the address of the car. The man at this address called his daughter and told her to go out to the car. It was a 20 year old girl, you could still smell the alcohol on her breath and she was as dumb as they get. Well, the good news of this story is I do not have to pay out of my pocket to fix our car.

Adult Furniture

Gilbert and I finally upgraded the last of my college furniture. I am very thankful that I was given furniture while I was in college so I did not have an apartment without furniture, but now that I am a career women I am thankful to have "adult" furniture as I call it. My new dining room table that Gilbert picked out all by himself. I think he did a fantastic job! I did pick out the table runner. It is a little short but I like it a lot.

Once again my husband picked out the coffee table set. Who knew he was an interior designer at heart. He might kill me for saying that but I am very happy I married a man with such good taste. I picked out the decoration on the table. We make a great team!

This is what the end tables look like.

Mom's Visit

First I have to apologize for taking so long to post. This week has been crazy to say the least. We have had a lot of technical difficulties at work. Since we moved to the new office, things are always messing up.

Anyways, my mom came down for last weekend and we had a great time. Friday night we went out to dinner at a nice Italian place. I had great lobster and seafood pasta.

Saturday we went on a boat tour to see "millionaire Row" and islands around the beach. First we went by Fisher Island. This island is only accessible by boat or helicopter. Mel Brooks, Oprah, Tom Cruise, Andre Agassi, and Stefi Graff are just a few celebrities that live here. The condos start at 2 million and go to 6 million. The amenities on the island are a polo course, golf course, and 18 tennis courts just to name a few. Then we went by South Beach which is the only natural island off of Miami (I did not know this before our tour). Next we went by Star Island where Millionaire Row is. We saw the following celebrity houses here: the house filmed in Scarface, Rosie O'Donnell, Gloria Estefan (when we went by Gloria's house she happened to be outside getting on her jet ski and was very friendly towards us), Shaq, P Diddy, Sylvester Stallone, Al Capone, Robert Vanwinkle aka. Vanilla Ice, the Parker family (Parker Pens), Bob Kuchenberg (the movie the Specialist was filmed here), some pharmaceutical guy, some German guy that I forgot about, and Julio Iglesias. We had a great time touring through the the islands off of Miami.

Sunday we went to see the Broadway play Rent. We all thoroughly enjoyed this play. It is for sure one of the best plays we have seen. We saw that Lion King is coming in April and can't wait to see this. My mom managed to wear us out but we all had a wonderful time.

Our exciting news of this week is that we just got tickets to the first Miami Heat game!!!!! I am very excited to get to go see them play in person. The game is on October 31st and this is when they players will get their rings.

On a side note, I have to post the pictures separately b.c I can't figure out how to get the pictures in between the text like I want.

BORED!

I am sooooo bored right now. It is pouring down rain outside, which made Gilbert and I cancel our plans of playing tennis. Gilbert and I have been "trying" to play tennis. It is really me that trys. Gilbert is good and has played since he was a child, however, I never played before. But I am enjoying it and Gilbert is trying not to get too frustrated with me.

Last night we watched a very good movie which I recommend to everyone, Akleeah the Bee. This has been about the highlight of my weekend so you can see why I am bored. I did clean the house (although I didn't want to) and am doing laundry today. Doesn't this sound like fun. I bet while you are reading this you just wish you could be in my shoes.

My mom comes down on Thursday and I am looking forward to this. I have not seen her since May 1st. We are going to see Rent, which I have always wanted to see. Gilbert and I watched the movie, Gilbert was not fond of. Both Gilbert and I have high expectations for the broadway play.

I recently read a good book, The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom. I enjoyed this a lot and now am looking for a good read. Anyone have suggestions?

Couldn't Resist

I can't resist sharing this picture of my adorable dog. Gilbert had shut him out of the bedroom so he was just waiting for Gilbert to let him in the room.

Babysitting!

Well let me first say that Ernesto brought no more rain and wind than a heavy thunderstorm would. We were hoping for a day off of work but we didn't get it. Although we did get to leave early the day before and came in late the following day, this is better than nothing.

This weekend, Gilbert and I had decided to go to Key West for labor day, but the weather had other things in mind. It has been raining ALL weekend and therefore we had to cancel this trip. Instead on Friday night we babysat our nephews. We went and picked them up after work and had them until 1:00 the following day. Friday night we went out to eat and then Saturday morning we went to the park. We all had a lot of fun, but Gilbert and I were so tired afterwards. This was good practice because we want to have kids but boy was I glad that I could give the kids back to their parnets so I could rest. Gilbert and I both laugh about this because we didn't realize we would be so tired.

For the rest of our Holiday weekend we have to clean and do laundry. Doesn't that sound like fun. I seriously am thinking about paying someone to clean the house because I get tired of cleaning each week. We will watch Munich, which is our latest movie from Netflix, hope we enjoy it.
